Why you need to be a first aider

Add caption
INTRODUCTION
IN this survey of first aid I have tried to introduced and explain the subject entirely from the student nurse's point of view.I really appreciate the British red cross.
The student nurse requires a knowledge of first aid which she can put into practice in the home, street, factory, school,or in a hospital  ward etc, prior of the arrival of doctor or group of the aforementioned associations who will have the equipment to carry out more elaborate first-aid practices, such as lifting, stretcher bearing and transportation.
The syllabus of general nursing council for Scotland has been followed as closely as possible in the text.
        GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID
First aid can be defined as the immediate, temporary treatment carried out in case of emergency, sudden illness or accident before the arrival of a doctor or the transportation of the patient to hospital

THE AIMS OF FIRST AID ARE:
1.To save life
2.To prevent illness or injures becoming worse.
3.To relieve pain as far as possible.
THE TYPE OF PEOPLE WHO ARE CAPABLE OF CARRYING OUT THE MOST SATISFACTORY TYPE OF FIRST AID ARE THOSE WHO:
1.Have the necessary knowledge.
2.Have sympathy and understanding
3.Have common sense.
4.Have initiative and a sense of leadership.
5.Have the ability to act quickly, make decisions and improvise.
6.Appreciate that sometimes the less interference the better.
GENERAL RULES OF FIRST AID TREATMENT
The general rules pertaining first aid treatment hold good under any circumstances whatsoever and have emerged through years of experience and are now tabulated in order of it.
1.Remove the patient from danger or remove further danger from  the patient, for an instance,if a child  falls into the fire ,he/she must be immediately removed to safer surroundings before any treatment can be carried out.
2.Treat the most urgent condition first and in order of precedence these conditions are:-
i.Apparent cessation of breathing.
ii.Severe hæorrhage.
iii.Shock.
3.unconscious patients should be placed in prone position or lying on their side,or if this is not. Possible, lying in the recumbent position Wu the head turned to the side.
4.Reassured the patient by word of mouth. This gives patient confidence and is as important as efficiency in treatment.
5.Alcoholic stimulants should not be given as these have a transient effect with a subsequent depressing effect on the vital centres.
7.Medical aid should be sought by written message rather then verbally.verbal massages have a tendency to become  garbled.
8.Organize unskilled onlookers or survivors to help in any way possible.for an instance, they can act as messengers, can be used to telephone 📞  for a doctor or an ambulance  or bring any required equipment.
9.control bystanders and onlookers and prevent them from exciting the patient.
10.Handle patients properly.if there is a suspected                  fracture, support the limb or part most carefully.Do not lift patients unless there are sufficient helpers.if clothes have to be removed (for an instance,a jacket or trousers)cut the clothing carefully at seams.this means that they can be stitched up again if necessary.

Always remove garments from the uninjured part first;this enables the garment to be slipped off the injured part.
11.A sensible assessment of the situation is essential, especially if a decision has to be made regarding the need for medical aid or the transportation of the patient to hospital
