Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Friday said the outcome of its probe into examination fraud between 2009- 2019 would shock many Nigerians.
He said the board has discovered that some prominent Nigerians occupying high positions in the society today did not take its examination themselves.
Oloyede said although the board may not be able to punish these persons because they had already left the system, but it would go ahead to publish their names to shame them.
The JAMB Registrar spoke at the 23rd annual seminar of the Nigerian Academy of Education under the topic, “Admissions into tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.”
He also said the board has hired a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to prosecute over 100 persons caught in various malpractices during the UTME which held between April 11 and 18, and who were arrested by security operatives across the country.
The registrar did not name the SAN leading the prosecution of UTME candidates and professional examination fraudsters.
He also did not state the day the 2019 UTME results would be released.
Oloyede said the board was amused by insinuation that it’s sever had crashed.
Such comments, he said, were amusing to members of the board.
The registrar said: “If I were to be punishing every staff of JAMB that is committing infractions, I will not focus on the assignment.
“I will be going from one disciplinary committee to the other and my attention will be diverted.
“And that is why I go for the shortest route; once you are caught to have committed one infraction, you will not be assigned with examination duties again.
“It is a privilege, which I can withdraw. If you are that bad that I don’t want to see your face around me, I will transfer you to another place.
“If we have to take disciplinary action against all of them; look at it, today we have 100 people not less than 100 in police cells across the country who were caught for examination malpractices.
“I have appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who is a former Solicitor-General to help me oversee all these so that the suspects can be brought to book.
“And my Director of Legal asked me, what offences should we charge these people for; for multiple registrations? And I said why can’t we go to the Examination Malpractice Act?
“So, my problem has started by having to draft the charges, despite the fact that we have evidences against them. That is the beginning of the problem.
“I will now ask to be paying my staff to travel out of Abuja to be testifying in court as they are adjourning month after month the cases and we will be wasting money and time on transport.
“So even now, what we have seen, I tell people that I am more tolerant of corruption in JAMB than when I was as a vice-chancellor at the University of Ilorin.”
He added that the board has de-listed no fewer than 76 Computer-Based Test Centres for various infractions in the recently concluded unified tertiary matriculation examination.
How to check JAMB result
1. Send RESULT as an SMS to 55019 using the same number that was used for registration.
2. An SMS will be sent back to your phone carrying your UTME 2019 results.
JAMB said it simplified the way to check results for the 2019 examination to avoid extortion of candidates.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that a former official who is being probed over an alleged diversion of N100m owned by the Board did not serve under the present leadership.
According to channels news reports that the board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, discloses this in an interview with NAN on Sunday in Lagos.
Fabian says, “Right now, we have just read from a major national daily that an ex-JAMB staff is about to be arraigned by the EFCC over an alleged diversion of about N100m belonging to the Board.
“Let me make it clear that this sad case was not during the tenure of the current JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
“In fact, one of the major guidelines of the current Board is total transparency and accountability, coupled with its open door policy,” Benjamin told NAN.
Why JAMB Is Probing Candidates’ Credentials From 2009-2019
Past Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidates across the country could be affected as the board launches a probe into the credentials of applicants dating back to 10 years ago – in 2009.

Speaking in a separate interview on 95.1 Nigeria Info FM Abuja, the JAMB spokesman noted that “We want to do what we call biometric verification dating 10 years back. Even if you are now working and we discovered that someone wrote exams for you, we will publish your name and the law agencies will do the needful.
“We have the biometric data from 10 years ago. We will compare the photos with thumbprints and names. We discovered that a candidate could have taken exams with 30 different names.”
Elucidating how impersonation happens, Benjamin added, “This is how they operate: My name is Fabian Benjamin but I will register as Abdullahi Musa and do exams for Abdullahi Musa but I will use my picture and my biometric data; only the name will be different.
“I will register as John David, as Austin Steven. I will register in the name of anyone that pays me, do exams for that person but I will use my picture. What this means is that when I get into the hall, the biometric data verification will allow me to enter but I will do the exam for someone else.
“The person whom exams were taken on his behalf would get into university and of course most universities don’t use the pictures of JAMB during admissions but what we want to enforce now is that the institutions must use the picture of the person. We will give the institutions the photo and it must match. In fact, only our pictures must be accepted by the institutions.”
Someone Registered 64 Times To Ghost-write UTME For 64 Candidates —JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it has caught someone it described as a “notorious cheat” who had registered for the UTME 64 times, with the intention of writing the examination for 64 candidates, Punch reports.
The Board added that overall, no fewer than 100 examination cheats have so far been arrested by security operatives across the country during the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The examination body lamented that multiple registrations inflate annual registration for the UTME exercise by up to 30 per cent.
In its Weekly Bulletin released in Abuja on Monday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the fraudsters were engaged in multiple registrations to facilitate impersonation during the examination.
JAMB also said that data available to it showed that the practice was prevalent in virtually all the states of the federation, including Abuja.
Among the persons arrested was a notorious cheat who had registered about 64 times in a bid to “ghost-write” for 64 candidates, the Board revealed.
The examination body said the arrest of the culprits was made possible by the comprehensive and mandatory identity checks conducted on those taking the examination, with a view to fishing out professional ghost writers before the release of the results.
JAMB also said that it had cancelled the results of two Computer Based Test centres in Abia State over what it described as “widespread irregularities” during the UTME.
It gave the names of the CBT centres as Heritage and Infinity CBT centre; and Okwyzil Computer Institute Comprehensive School Ugwunabo, Aba, Abia State.
It said the drastic action was necessitated by the visual evidence obtained from a careful review of the CCTV recordings by a panel of experts engaged by the Board.
“However, in order not to unduly punish honest and hardworking candidates who found themselves attached to these two centres, the board magnanimously relocated all the candidates who had taken or were scheduled to take their examination in the two centres to other centres where they subsequently took their examinations,” it said.
JAMB apologised to innocent candidates involved in the relocation for the inconveniences they may have suffered, reaffirming its commitment to providing equal opportunity to all candidates to articulate their hopes and aspirations.
The body said that all the results of the examination sessions conducted by the Board in the two centres from April 11 to 18 were null and void.
