Things to do ,to have retentive memory ( to remember past things easily) as a student.
In life there are different categories of people ,people who read and understand but can remember what they red, people who don't even know how to read, people who read and don't even understand what they red, people who read,understands and also remember.
The aforementioned people exist in this planet earth, as far as am concern I don't believe there are category of people who are unteachable. according to law of motion "All body is at rest unless there is an applied force"
If you don't make any effort to learn that's where inertia force have weigh you down.
How do I read and remember.
1: buy the same book from different Author : this is number one secret of learning ,remember not all educated person (s) is(are) teacher .I remembered back in college in my junior class one I was a guru in all subject with exception of mathematics. I was scoring very poor until my senior class one when I met with another mathematics tutor who teaches mathematics with different methods by teaching us from different type of mathematics text books .from there I gradually picked up as started doing well in mathematics.

As secondary schools students if you have Essential Mathematics text book and Comprehensive mathematics text book if you go through them you find there is different .
When I was in college I love TEACH YOURSELF Mathematics text book
this text book is really good when you go through It you will observe the book it self is a tutor .the text book really helped a lot when I was in college.
So what am saying in essence is that buying the same books from different author help a lot . Every author have his or her way of teaching that's why if three educated persons in fact three tutors are to teach one particular topic you will find one out of the three will be the best it likewise in text books.
2:Always Check the time for study: Time is very important in every aspect put yourself to test to know time you read and understand what you red very well don't say my mate like reading in the noonday or night or morning as case may be .this is no best time for study it is all how you trained yourself . some people like studying in a noisy place and some study in tranquilize area it all depends on how you trained yourself. Some people burn mid night candle yet they can't produce anything from what they red in the morning if you fall in this category you have to access your body system and find the suitable time for your study.
3: Never study alone:always have a reading partner it help a lot when you come across some topics that seem too hard for you .your reading partner can help you out. remember two good head is better than one.
So, have reading group/ partner share idea related to the books you are studying.
4. Video tutor/ online course: This is perfect method of learning for those who do not remembered what they read.
What you watch with your eyes Will not erase easily from your brain .
Try to watch each topic over and over you will never forget it so quick .instead of watching Telemundo or Televista movie or zee world and co convert it to video course you will not regret it .
From video course you will get to understanding those topics you could not comprehend .
Why video course is more clear than studying through text books is that on the tutorial video, you will see all those elements or anatomy pictures to be real . because the tutor will be showing you how all those things works . examples like machines, skeleton( both human and animal) how human system works , how element reacts etc you will be watching them live .you can't compared what you read from books to what you watch in a video . unless you are privilege to see and touch it and do the practical yourself.
5:Audio learning format: this type also help you to have retentive memory .that's why school children always learn things easy when their teacher turn the topic into music .
What is demanded of you is playing the tutorial audio repeatedly that's all and you will never forget it.
6:Reading Affinity: let reading/ studying books be part of you as some element in chemistry is water Affinity let reading be part of you to an extent that you can't do without studying . it will definitely have retentive memory.
